# Extract a typed record from model output

> Ask a model for a refined record type and test the extraction offline, scripted and replayed.

Generated by `cargo run -p agent_docs` from `compiler/examples/`. Edit the example files, then regenerate.

Ask a model for a refined record type and test the extraction offline, scripted and replayed.

An `@llm` function declares the record it returns; the adapter asks the model for that type's
JSON Schema and decodes the answer against the type, refinements included, so a wrong answer
is the typed failure `InvalidOutput`, never a crash. The first two tests script the model with
`Llm.scripted`, which takes the answer itself. The other two replay
`tests/fixtures/extract_ticket.jsonl`, a synthetic Messages API exchange, through
`Llm.replay` and through `Llm.recording`, whose test `sakura test --record` would fetch once.

`Llm.anthropic` always sends to `https://api.anthropic.com`, so the cassette's keys are the
same on every machine; for another endpoint pass it with `Llm.anthropic_at(base, key, model)`
(no process variable is read).

`main` calls a real model, so the harness runs the tests only. The fixture's bodies, IDs and
token counts were invented (see its README); this is not live-provider validation.

[Source project](https://github.com/icantcodefyi/sakuralang/tree/main/compiler/examples/llm_extract) · harness mode: `test`.

From the repository root, with this checkout's `sakura` on `PATH`:

```sh
cd compiler/examples/llm_extract
sakura check --json
sakura test --json
```

### `tests/fixtures/README.md` [#testsfixturesreadmemd]

```text
# Synthetic cassettes
These are **hand-authored, synthetic** HTTP cassettes (design §17.73), not recordings of a
real service: no request was ever sent to a provider, and the response bodies, ids and token
counts are invented to match the documented response shapes. They contain no secrets: secret
headers are never written to a cassette or used to match one. The first line is the
cassette header `{"schema_version":"1.0","kind":"cassette"}` (design §17.122).
`extract_ticket.jsonl`: two Anthropic Messages API exchanges for `extract_ticket` (structured
output, `stop_reason: "end_turn"`): the default model for the `Llm.replay` test and
`claude-sonnet-5-5` for the `Llm.recording` test (design §15.7).
Each request line (method, url, headers, body) was produced by running the test once under
`sakura test --record` with the outer `Http` scripted to answer the synthetic response, so the key
matches what the program sends byte for byte. If a change to the program, std or the runtime
changes a request, the test fails with `no recording for …`; regenerate the line the same way
(or, with a real key, `sakura test --record`) and review the diff.
### Compiler provenance and regeneration [#compiler-provenance-and-regeneration]
Finish only when no holes remain, independent tests pass, the requested target
builds, and contracts/tests/permissions have not been weakened. Repeat the frozen
baseline check after the final edits. Report missing prerequisites and failing
checks explicitly; do not claim a skipped test passed.
These ten projects teach supported Sakura APIs on the JavaScript backend. Each
project is exercised offline by `cargo test -p sakura_cli --test examples`;
HTTP and LLM exchanges are synthetic committed cassettes, with no network or API keys.
Use Node 26 for execution, including its built-in SQLite implementation.
The initial API baseline is compiler revision
[5cae349516c21714d90d36e87f1cfd6debe980c6](https://github.com/icantcodefyi/sakuralang/commit/5cae349516c21714d90d36e87f1cfd6debe980c6).
CI reruns these projects against the compiler in the same checkout. Build that
checkout's CLI and run `sakura --version` and `sakura prompt` before adapting a recipe.
Sakura Lang is pre-1.0: read STABILITY.md before depending on an API. An installed
skill's frontmatter records its compiler version and build revision. These teaching examples are separate from the agent
evaluation tasks.
The source of each page is its example's `recipe.md`, `sakura.toml`,
`src/main.sak` and fixture files. Run `cargo run -p agent_docs` from `compiler/`
to regenerate the cookbook and skill reference. Edit those sources, not the rendered pages.
